On 7th December 2022, the European Union formally adopted Directive (EU) 2022/2380, designating USB Type-C as the unified charging interface for wireless electronic devices within the EU.
Applicable Products
The directive mandates compliance for 13 categories of devices:
Smartphones, Tablets, Digital Cameras, Earbuds, Earphones, Headphones, Handheld Gaming Consoles, Portable Speakers, E-readers, Keyboards, Mice, Laptops, and Portable Navigation Devices.
Enforcement Timeline
28 December 2024: Mandatory compliance for 12 device categories (excluding laptops).
28 April 2026: Mandatory compliance for laptops.
