Regulatory Background
The regulation of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) has garnered increasing attention.
At the international level, the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants was adopted on May 22, 2001, aiming to protect human health and the environment from the hazards of POPs. As a signatory to the Convention, the European Union (EU) is obligated to implement its provisions.
In alignment with this requirement, the EU enacted the POPs Regulation (EC) No 850/2004, and later introduced the new POPs Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 on June 25, 2019. The updated regulation entered into force on July 15, 2019.
