On December 23, 2024, Ti Group assisted Shanghai Electric in simultaneously obtaining ISCC EU certification for biomass collection and storage, biomass processing, and biomass gasification coupled with green hydrogen to produce biomass methanol. This achievement makes Shanghai Electric the first biomass methanol producer in China to achieve full-chain ISCC EU certification, covering the entire process from biomass field collection to biomass methanol production.
ISCC-EU Full-Chain Certification for Biomass Methanol
ISCC-EU certification is a sustainability standard based on EU regulations and is one of the mandatory certification mechanisms for green energy products entering the EU market. It applies to the sustainability requirements for biofuels, bioliquids, and biomass fuels specified in the EU's RED II.
The certification was awarded to the Taonan Wind Power Coupled Biomass Sustainable Methanol Integration Demonstration Project, wholly owned by Green Source Technology (Jilin) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Shanghai Electric. This project collects biomass straw and, through processes such as pretreatment, gasification, wind power-coupled hydrogen production, synthesis, and distillation, produces sustainable methanol fuel that meets marine standards.
Ti Group provided comprehensive technical support to Shanghai Electric. Through close collaboration between Ti Group's professional team and Shanghai Electric's project team, a full range of professional "one-stop" solutions were offered, from project registration, management system setup, greenhouse gas calculation modeling, to on-site certification audit assistance. This ensured that Shanghai Electric's biomass methanol project met the standards and requirements of ISCC-EU certification at every stage.
The successful acquisition of ISCC-EU full-chain certification by Shanghai Electric is the result of the joint efforts of both parties and marks a significant milestone in the field of green energy and sustainable development. As global attention to environmental protection and sustainable development continues to grow, Ti Group and Shanghai Electric will continue to work together to contribute to the advancement of the global green energy industry.
